The Bible is Alive

Hebrews 4:12: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The word quick means alive. The Bible often uses the word quicken. To quicken is to make alive. Dead things cannot give life. Spiritually dead things cannot give spiritual life. Dead things cannot do anything. Spiritually dead things cannot do anything spiritual. Life does not come out of death. Life does not come out of dead things. If the Bible were dead it could do nothing for us. The Bible does things for us that no other book can do. The Bible is the means which God has chosen to deal with the human race. There are many things for which the Bible is the only means which God uses. God is often called the Living God. The Living God takes the Living Word and makes spiritually dead men spiritually alive. Peter calls us lively stones.

John 5:24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 6:63: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

The Bible is powerful. It accomplishes God*s will. It will never miss its mark. It will never apply too much power and it will never apply too little.

Isaiah 55:11: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Faith is necessary to salvation. The Bible produces faith.

Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Being born again is necessary to salvation. The Bible causes that.

1 Peter 1:23: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

James 1:18: Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

The Bible is able to make itself a part of us like no other book.

James 1:21: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

As powerful as the Bible is we humans can render it powerless to ourselves by rejecting it and not believing it.

Hebrews 4:2: For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

We can also nullify the power of the Word of God by unbiblical traditions.

Matthew 15:3-6: But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

Mark 7:13: Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
